Freedom of information

Freedom of Information Logo

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 enables people to access documents and other information about public authorities. It is governed by the Information Commissioner’s Office, which also monitors compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

The aim of the Act is to promote greater transparency and openness of public authorities by answering requests for information from and about public authorities.

Under Section 19 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, public authorities are required to publish and maintain a publication scheme which is a list of the information routinely published by us. The purpose of the scheme is to enable significant amounts of information to be made available without the need for a specific request.
