Thomas Pont, Duty Manager at East of England Ambulance Service’s Norwich Emergency Operations Centre, has been presented with an award from the Chair of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) in recognition for outstanding service.

Thomas was presented with the award by Daren Mochrie, Chair of AACE, at a recent ceremony in Newport.

"The presentation was an amazing experience, and one I am truly grateful to have been part of!" Thomas said later.
"It was so good to hear so many amazing stories of excellent service from all parts of the UK and it was such an honour to have been recognised alongside some of the very best examples of the selfless acts of heroism that we see day in, day out."

Before joining EEAST seven years ago, Thomas had worked as a care assistant for a number of years, but felt he didn’t have a clear career path, which led him to consider the ambulance service.

“There’s something quite satisfying in going to work and making a difference – you don’t get that in other industries,” he said.

Daren Mochrie presents Thomas Pont with his award.

Lee Brooks, Interim Assistant General Manager for Norfolk Central, nominated Thomas for the award. He said: “Thomas goes above and beyond every shift. From supporting staff members within the Emergency Operations Centre to ensuring operational staff are looked after as if they are his own staff.

“He demonstrates EEAST’s high values in delivering patient care and encourages others to learn and develop as well ensuring his own level of development.

Thomas is a credit to the Norwich Emergency Operations Centre and EEAST.

“He started as call handler and has worked his way up to a duty manager. His combined skills and knowledge and dedication are what makes him an exceptional member of EEAST staff.”
