MP praises progress on new £10 million ambulance hub for Bury

Jo Churchill, MP for Bury, has praised the progress that the EEAST is making on constructing its new multimillion pound ambulance station near Bury St Edmunds.

She joined CEO Tom Abell and Chair Mrunal Sisodia OBE on a visit to the site on Friday (4^th November).

The £10 million project will create a new station with a dedicated vehicle workshop and ‘make ready’ areas so that ambulance crews can respond to incidents faster.
There will also be improved health and wellbeing facilities for staff, as well as training rooms. The construction is due to be completed in Summer 2024.

Ms Churchill also joined Tom and Mrunal on a visit to the existing Bury ambulance station, to meet frontline staff and discuss how ambulance response times are continuing to improve in the Bury St Edmunds area.

Ms Churchill said: “It was great to be on-site at the new Bury ambulance station to see how construction is progressing. I know that residents across the area will welcome this £10 million investment in our local ambulance services.

“I also got the chance to meet and thank the dedicated frontline staff at Bury’s existing ambulance station, who work in a very challenging environment to provide the best possible care to patients.”

Tom Abell, EEAST CEO, said: “I was delighted to welcome Jo Churchill MP to the site of our new ambulance hub for Bury, which will make a huge difference to how we deliver ambulance services in the area.

“Once opened, it will allow paramedics to spend more time out on the road treating patients, and provide better wellbeing facilities for them as well.”
