Research Support Services

Clinical research activity is about objectively looking at proposed new ways of working or new treatment options in order to inform service developments and improve patient outcomes - evidence-based practice.

The proper governance of research is required to ensure that the public can have confidence in, and benefit from, quality research in health and social care. The public has a right to expect high scientific, ethical and financial standards, transparent decision-making processes, clear allocation of responsibilities and robust monitoring arrangements. Such governance arrangements are laid down in the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research and must be followed for all research activity involving the NHS.
