Georgina's Journey - Senior EMT

Georgina Lovejoy is a senior emergency medical technician who has been with the Trust for 14 years.

Before joining the Trust as a member of staff, I first began volunteering as a community first responder (CFR) where I helped to set the scheme locally. After having children, I was looking for a change in career and wanted to take my volunteering role further.

I went on to join the Trust as a student ambulance paramedic (SAP), however due to unforeseen circumstances I remained as an emergency medical technician (EMT) and continued in this role until the pandemic. During the pandemic, I was vulnerable and had to be removed from operational duties, so I joined the newly introduced COVID team on a secondment where I have worked for the past three years, in the last year taking on a more senior role within the team. I am due to go back to my operational role shortly.

Both my operational role, and my role within the COVID team, have offered me a wide range of experiences. I enjoy the patient contact within my operations role, but I equally enjoyed the team and the diversity the role brings within the COVID team. I have been particularly proud of the teamwork over the last few years, I have made many friendships and have always been supported by my colleagues.

Working as the NHS as a whole is a great career choice and offers stability. I would recommend others to join the service and to enjoy the job role they choose. We are in a privileged position being patient facing, all large organisations come with their own battles and issues but if you can do the job you are meant to do and enjoy it, it’s a good place to be.
